KEY VERSE

Romans 13:1

“Every person is to be in subjection to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God.”

OUTLINE

PART I

I. Respect governing authorities. Paul calls believers to obey the law, do what is right, and pay what they owe. Government has a God-given responsibility to restrain wrongdoing. (Romans 1–7)

PART II

II. Let love guide your treatment of others. “Love your neighbor as yourself” sums up Paul's commands. Love does no wrong to a neighbor. (Romans 8-10)

III. Live with urgency because Christ’s return is nearer. Paul tells believers to wake from spiritual sleep and put aside works of darkness. (Romans 11-12)

IV. Put on the Lord Jesus Christ. Following Christ means turning away from sinful desires and living in a way that reflects Him. (Romans 13-14)

Romans 13 calls us to live responsibly toward authorities, lovingly toward neighbors, and faithfully before Christ.
