A Good Father Reflects God's Character
A Good Father Reflects God's Character
I. A Good Father Loves His Children
1 John 4:19 —
"We love him, because he first loved us."
Application: A good father shows unconditional love, forgiveness, and compassion.
II. A Good Father Provides for His Family
1 Timothy 5:8
8 But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.
Application: A good father works diligently to meet the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of his family.
III. A Good Father Teaches and Guides
Proverbs 22:6 “Train up a child in the way he should go,
Even when he is old he will not depart from it.
Application: A good father intentionally instructs his children in wisdom and faith.
IV. A Good Father Disciplines with Love
Hebrews 12:7-11
7 It is for discipline that you endure; God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom his father does not discipline?
8 But if you are without discipline, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate children and not sons.
9 Furthermore, we had earthly fathers to discipline us, and we respected them; shall we not much rather be subject to the Father of spirits, and live?
10 For they disciplined us for a short time as seemed best to them, but He disciplines us for our good, so that we may share His holiness.
11 All discipline for the moment seems not to be joyful, but sorrowful; yet to those who have been trained by it, afterwards it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness.
Application: Discipline should be corrective, loving, and aimed at growth rather than punishment alone.
V. A Good Father Encourages Rather Than Provokes
Ephesians 6:4
"Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord."
Application: A good father builds up his children with patience, encouragement, and understanding.
VI. A Good Father Leaves a Godly Legacy
Proverbs 20:7
"The righteous who walks in his integrity—blessed are his children after him!"
Application: The greatest inheritance a father can leave is a life of faith and integrity.
Conclusion: The Example of Our Heavenly Father
Psalm 103:13
"Just as a father shows compassion to his children, so the Lord shows compassion to those who fear him."
Main Truth: A good father seeks to love, provide, guide, discipline, encourage, and model godliness, reflecting the heart of our Heavenly Father.
